Multiple law enforcement officers were shot in Charlotte, N.C., on Monday as members of a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force were trying to serve a warrant and were met by gunfire, the police said. The authorities shut down the city’s Shannon Park neighborhood, east of downtown, in order to more easily move victims to hospitals, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wrote on social media. It cautioned residents to stay inside and avoid the area. The scene was still active after 3 p.m., the authorities said, and a SWAT team was at the scene.

CNN —“Numerous law enforcement officers” have been shot in an “active situation” in Charlotte, North Carolina, police say. “The scene is still active. The incident is at the 5000 block of Galway Drive, police said, and a SWAT team is on scene. “Multiple law enforcement officers have been struck by the gunfire and are being transported to the hospital.”“Mayor Vi Lyles is monitoring the situation,” City of Charlotte spokesperson Lawrence Corley told CNN. Police said “gunfire continues on the scene” in an earlier post on X.

Police arrested a North Carolina man after a four-year-old boy died of a gun shot wound on Wednesday, NBC affiliate WCNC of Charlotte reported. Authorities responded to the scene on Charleston Place, in southeast Charlotte, on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Emergency medical personnel transported the boy to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. WCNCPolice earlier said they were investigating the incident after walking back the department’s initial determination that the boy’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, WCNC reported. NBC News could not immediately reach the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for comment.
